At Planned Parenthood Golden Gate, we recognize that health care is about more than your body. We know that being healthy also includes your mental, emotional and spiritual well-being. That's one of the reasons we have a Chaplain on staff. Just as PPGG's doctors and nurses attend to your physical health, the PPGG Chaplain is here to support your spiritual health.
The PPGG Chaplain is available to all PPGG clients, including those clients who are not religious. She does not proselytize or advocate any particular point of view. Rather, she offers a compassionate listening presence and guidance in clarifying your values, your beliefs, and your sources of strength and hope.
| What are "spiritual health" and "spiritual distress"? |
Spiritual health includes many dimensions, such as:
-
Believing you have a purpose
-
Finding meaning in life
-
Feeling satisfied with your accomplishments and goals
-
Having cherished values and ethics that guide your actions
-
Achieving balance among all the areas of your life, and
-
Feeling connected to yourself and to the world around you.
Spiritual health is a constant work in progress. Just as physical heath requires preventive check-ups, regular exercise and eating well, spiritual health requires time for reflection, engagement with your community and adapting to new information and experiences.
Spiritual distress can occur when you:
-
Doubt something that you have always believed
-
Cannot find meaning or purpose in your life
-
Feel alone or disconnected from yourself or your community
-
Find that your priorities do not match up with your values
-
Feel hopeless
-
Experience a major life event
We all go through times of spiritual distress in our lives. PPGG's chaplain is specially trained to journey with you through these thoughtful and often difficult times.
