Register to Vote

Requirements for registering to vote

You must be:

  • a United States citizen
  • a resident of California 
  • at least 18 years of age (or will be by the date of the next election) 
  • not in prison or on parole for conviction of a felony 
  • have not been judged by a court to be mentally incompetent to register and vote

When you:

  • move 
  • change your name 
  • change your political party affiliation

Election Information

The next election is the presidential primary on February 5, 2007. On this day millions of Californians will head to the polls to cast ballots to cast a vote in the presidential primary and on statewide ballot propositions. The polls will open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.
